According to the Port of Bellingham, almost 7,000 firms provide more than 85,700 jobs in the area. With the average commute to work being less than 21 minutes, low commuting time is a plus in Whatcom County, especially compared to major urban areas.
As of 2019, the number is employees in Whatcom County was 102,969, a 2.91% growth, and the unemployment rate was 4.7%, down from 6.9% in 2013.
The median household income in 2019 was $56,419, a 4.08% growth.
