These day I find my time is largely spent attending a council meeting, city forum, or having a discussion with one of you about the political environment and issues facing our community. Right now our political climate is charged and seems to center on topics like the housing crisis, Cherry Point, the Hirst water case, the jail, and homelessness. I’m always amazed by the complexity of these issues. It is an election year for the Bellingham City Council, Whatcom County Council, and the Port of Bellingham which brings all the issues to the forefront of public conversation.

With so many elected positions up for grabs this fall, the Chamber is hosting a Political Forum to hear from the candidates. Please watch for “Save the Date” information soon.

We also want to hear from you. It is our plan to produce a voter’s guide for the business community based upon questions we hear from you. Please send your questions to guy@bellingham.com. The final selection of questions will be determined by the General Advisory Committee, the Board of Directors, and staff.

Note:  General election ballots will be mailed in October. Make your voice heard and be sure to vote!
