Industry questions:

Do you see any industry trends that your company will need to respond to in the next year?  The biggest issue I foresee in the coming year is positioning by Big Pharma and other majob corporations with deep pockets to take over the Washington cannabis market, isolate cannabis compounds and try to put the cottage industry out of business.  We are trying to avoid that destiny, while also positioning ourselves to embrace that landscape if that is what the environment dictates.

What is the best piece of advice you could give someone who is starting out in your industry? Don’t do it.  But if you’re dead set on it, pick some business traits that you already have and integrate into the market that way.  If you have experience in tech, don’t start a cannabis farm.  Start a third party traceability company.  I’d also tell you to look outside of Washington.

Profession questions:

How do you start your average day?  Snuggling with my kids…which usually turns to tickling…and then harping on them to get dressed, make their lunch, eat their breakfast, brush their teeth and get out the door on time.  After that, when I get to work, I review my emails and pick the ones that HAVE to happen.  I also start each Monday with a list of 5 things to get done that day (great advice from Anne Marie of Brambleberry), although I’m lucky if I get one done by the end of the week!

Who is the person that had the biggest impact on your career and why? My husband Juddy, who is also my business partner, who trusts me and my instincts to the end.  He knows what I’m good at and encourages me to run with it.   Also my mother, who without her support as a Granny Nanny, picking up the pieces of our family life when business needed priority, we would never have been able to get to where we are today.
